Shadow Warrior, released in 1997 by 3D Realms, is a fast-paced first-person shooter built on the Build engine, the same technology behind Duke Nukem 3D. Players take on the role of Lo Wang, a skilled modern ninja working for the corrupt Zilla Corporation, who turns against his employers after discovering their plan to unleash demonic forces on the world.

The game combines over-the-top gunplay with martial-arts flair. Alongside traditional firearms like uzis and shotguns, players can wield a deadly katana, shurikens, and explosive weapons to dispatch enemies ranging from corporate soldiers to grotesque creatures. Interactive environments, driveable vehicles, and hidden secrets added extra layers of depth to the frenetic action.

Known for its irreverent humor, stylized violence, and Eastern-themed aesthetic, Shadow Warrior stood out as one of the last big MS-DOS shooters of the 1990s. While controversial for its stereotypes, it became a cult favorite, remembered for its high-energy gameplay, memorable one-liners, and inventive use of the Build engine.
