DreamWeb

ADVENTURE 1994

DreamWeb DreamWeb, released in 1994 by Creative Reality, is a dark, top-down point-and-click adventure that delves into themes of destiny, morality, and madness. Players control Ryan, a troubled bartender plagued by disturbing dreams, who is chosen by mysterious monks to become the β€œkeeper of the DreamWeb” and tasked with assassinating seven individuals tied to an ancient evil.

The gameplay focuses on exploration, puzzle-solving, and interaction with objects in a gritty cyberpunk world. Presented through a bird’s-eye perspective, players search for clues, gather items, and piece together the sinister narrative. Its mature themes, bleak environments, and violent moments set it apart from the more lighthearted adventures of the era.

Known for its atmospheric pixel art, moody soundtrack, and controversial tone, DreamWeb became a cult classic among adventure fans. The inclusion of a digital diary, provided as an in-game document, added depth to Ryan’s fractured psyche and the unfolding mystery. It remains remembered as one of the boldest and most unconventional DOS adventures of the mid-1990s.

Dreamweb is and adventure game placed few centuries in a future. I remember how i got hooked to it right from a start. An I was whacked so many times :D Writing: Score 6/10 Plot is made for adult taste. also violence parts are brutal. Don't know how old was the writer that day, but script shows some oversexual and overgore "glitches". Otherwise it's interesting and progressing in good pace. Coding: Score 9/10 Basic adventure game with nothing special, but game like this didn't need anything special from coder, even year is 94. So coder did what was needed, no bugs and smooth interface. Graphics/UI: Score 8/10 GFX are dark, and making atmosphere pressuring and feeling there is something bad going to happen in any second. SFX/Music: Score 9/10 Music is made with scream tracker or similar program, and you can hear it, it's great. Not some Midi shit. Overall: Score 8/10 One of the best adventure games ever made. Hard AF, but year was 94, when games were hard and players steel.
