Solomon's Key – MS-DOS cover art Solomon's Key is a classic puzzle-platform game developed by Tecmo and released for MS-DOS in 1988. Originally introduced as an arcade game in 1986, it combines challenging puzzles, fast-paced action, and magical fantasy elements. Players take control of Dana, a young wizard who must navigate a series of dangerous chambers filled with monsters, traps, and mysterious obstacles. His ultimate goal is to overcome each room's challenges and progress deeper into the magical labyrinth.

The gameplay revolves around collecting a key and reaching the exit door in each level. Armed with a magical wand, Dana can create and destroy blocks, allowing him to build platforms, clear pathways, and solve increasingly complex environmental puzzles. However, success requires more than clever thinking, as enemies constantly patrol the rooms and a strict time limit adds pressure to every decision. Hidden treasures, magical items, and secret bonuses reward exploration, while carefully designed levels demand both precise timing and strategic planning.

The MS-DOS version of Solomon's Key was adapted by Probe Software and published by U.S. Gold, bringing Tecmo's arcade experience to personal computers. Although its CGA graphics and simple PC speaker sound are more limited than those of the original arcade release, the game retains its distinctive combination of logic, platforming, and action. With its demanding difficulty, inventive level design, and engaging block-manipulation mechanics, Solomon's Key remains a memorable example of late-1980s puzzle-platform gaming.
