Space Quest: Chapter I – The Sarien Encounter is a classic science-fiction adventure game released for MS-DOS by Sierra On-Line in 1986. Players take on the role of Roger Wilco, an ordinary janitor aboard the spaceship Arcada, who unexpectedly becomes the only survivor of an attack by the ruthless Sariens.

After escaping the doomed ship, Roger must explore strange planets, solve puzzles, gather useful items, and prevent the Sariens from using the stolen Star Generator as a devastating weapon. The game combines text commands with colorful graphical environments, requiring players to type instructions while carefully observing their surroundings.

With its humorous writing, dangerous situations, and playful parody of popular science-fiction stories, Space Quest I became one of Sierra’s most memorable adventure games. Its unforgiving puzzles and numerous creative ways to die may challenge modern players, but they also give the game much of its distinctive charm and lasting appeal.
