King's Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella

King's Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella is a fantasy adventure game developed and published by Sierra On-Line in 1988. The story follows Princess Rosella, daughter of King Graham, who must find a magical fruit capable of saving her dying father. Her quest takes her to the mysterious land of Tamir, where she also agrees to help the fairy Genesta recover a stolen magical talisman from the evil witch Lolotte.

The game combines exploration, puzzle-solving and story-driven adventure gameplay in the classic Sierra style. Players guide Rosella through forests, caves, haunted locations and other dangerous areas, collecting objects, interacting with characters and solving a wide variety of puzzles. The MS-DOS version uses a text parser for commands while presenting the world through detailed colorful graphics, creating a much richer atmosphere than the earlier games in the series.

King's Quest IV was an important milestone for Sierra and for computer adventure games in general. Rosella was one of the earliest female protagonists in a major commercial computer game, and the title also showcased Sierra's new SCI technology, allowing improved graphics, animation, music and sound compared with its predecessors.
