Phantis
Phantis is a science fiction action game released in 1987 for MS-DOS by the Spanish company Dinamic Multimedia, originally known as Dinamic Software. Also released internationally as Game Over II, the game takes players on a dangerous rescue mission to the hostile alien world of Phantis. In the original Spanish storyline, Commander Serena must travel to a distant planet to rescue her captured expedition partner, facing countless enemies and deadly obstacles along the way.The gameplay combines fast-paced side-scrolling shooting with platforming and arcade action. Players begin their adventure piloting a spacecraft through waves of enemy fighters and dangerous space environments before descending to the planet's surface. As the mission progresses, the action shifts to navigating treacherous landscapes, battling alien creatures, and overcoming environmental hazards. Each stage presents new challenges that demand quick reflexes, precise movement, and careful timing.
With its colorful retro graphics, atmospheric science fiction setting, and demanding difficulty, Phantis captures the spirit of classic 1980s arcade gaming. Its combination of different gameplay styles provides variety, while its unforgiving enemies and limited lives offer a serious challenge even for experienced players. Although relatively simple by modern standards, Phantis remains an interesting example of Spanish game development during the golden age of home computers and a nostalgic experience for fans of old-school MS-DOS action games.
