Karnov
Karnov is a classic side-scrolling action platformer developed by Data East and originally released in arcades in 1987. The game follows Jinborov Karnovski, a muscular, fire-breathing former circus strongman on a dangerous quest to recover the legendary Treasure of Babylon. Armed with his ability to shoot fireballs, Karnov must travel through mysterious lands filled with bizarre creatures, deadly traps, and powerful enemies. The adventure takes players through nine challenging levels, each featuring unique environments, obstacles, and formidable bosses. Along the way, Karnov can collect various power-ups and useful items, including bombs, ladders, boomerangs, magical wings, and upgrades to his firepower. Success requires quick reflexes, precise jumping, and clever use of equipment to overcome increasingly difficult challenges and uncover hidden secrets.
With its distinctive protagonist, colorful fantasy world, and demanding arcade-style gameplay, Karnov remains a memorable example of late-1980s platform gaming. The MS-DOS version brings Data East's unusual adventure to home computers, offering an entertaining combination of action, exploration, and strategic item management. Its quirky charm, imaginative enemies, and unforgiving difficulty make it a fascinating piece of retro gaming history.
