Knights of Xentar

RPG 1995

Knights of Xentar Knights of Xentar, released in 1995 by Megatech Software, is an English-localized version of the Japanese RPG Dragon Knight III. It’s a tongue-in-cheek, anime-styled role-playing game that mixes traditional fantasy storytelling with heavy doses of comedy and parody. Players guide the brash young hero Desmond on a quest to regain his stolen equipment, only to be swept up in a larger adventure to save the world from looming evil.

The game features classic JRPG mechanics: turn-based battles, character progression, and exploration of towns, dungeons, and overworld maps. What makes Knights of Xentar distinct is its irreverent humor, playful dialogue, and self-aware tone. The localization leans heavily into parody, poking fun at RPG clichΓ©s while still delivering a full-fledged role-playing experience.

With its colorful anime graphics, upbeat soundtrack, and quirky sense of humor, Knights of Xentar stood out from the more serious Western RPGs of its era. Though somewhat controversial for its mature themes and suggestive content, it gained a cult following among players who appreciated its offbeat charm and unique place in 1990s PC gaming.
